I dropped the old 70' TV tower that used to stand next to the house. (Before I was a Ham) It was just too bad to climb and had a kink in the middle. Tied one of the guy wires to the bumper of the car, cut the other 5 guys, and drove up the back yard like heck to get out of the way. You need a calm day to try such foolishness. ( And a lot of luck!)

Speaking of dropping towers....  I was once on a crew that dropped a 300' Rohn 45 tower.  It was commercial and had to come down ASAP.

We cut all the guys up to the 130' level on one side and it still stood!

Then we cut the next two levels at 165'/200' at the same time. It folded like a jacknife, snapped, and the upper section came down and hit the ground nearly flat... lucky.

I was able to salvage 140' of good, straight tower sections that were later used here.  Lots of guy wire too.

The other 160'  of tower sections were like pretzels.

The lesson I learned is how strong Rohn 45 tower is... to stand with no guys 130' tall with another 170' above it still amazes me!

With multiple pictures of the tower dropping, including before and after shots.

Bud: You got that right!

Paul: If I would have taken the time to drink a beer, I might not have done it.

Both: I had tried to find a professional to take it down. Nobody would touch it. I simply got pissed one afternoon and did it.
