Title: 9 MHz crystal
Post by: PA0NVD on October 24, 2019, 08:16:23 PM
The 9 MHz crystal of my Ten Tec Corsair 2 is starting to give trouble, after heating up it jumps approx 150 Hz. Anyone knows where to find one?

Nico,

The Central Electronics 10A/B and 20A uses a 9 mhz crystal.

Those crystals from the CE rigs have a lot of warm up drift (maybe 600hz?), and sometimes will shift suddenly 150 hz or more as the surrounding ambient heats up.

I tried several 9 Mhz crystals, and the best was still unusable with today's "channelized" frequencies where 150 hz is like being "your drifting out of the band man".

I ended up getting a larger size CB Channel 4 Transmit crystal, 3rd Overone:

26.98500    CB Channel 03
27.00500    CB Channel 04

I got a NOS crystal on Ebay. It too had a warm up drift, but no jumping.

I ended up mounting the crystal in a 4 terminal square crystal oven with a 6V bi-metalic thermostat heater.

Now after about 3-5 minutes after power up, the crystal is solid...no drift.

That a good idea Jim, thanks a lot. I will look for these crystals.
