Title: New qth for a week or so.... Could be the best qth ever......
Post by: KD6VXI on July 18, 2019, 02:51:59 PM
Out in Platform Hermosa for a week.

Sure wish I could bring the radio!  6 miles to the nearest beach and a 150 foot tower!

I'm going to ask the control operator if I can bring a 100 Watt radio and a screwdriver antenna next time.  The helipad is about 200 foot above sea level, I believe I can be at 150 feet, with the rig as a reflector.  Maybe bring extra coax to change the location over a period of days.

Would be amazing to stretch a dipole out on some type of extenders off the platform!

Just what the doctor ordered.

This is measuring one of the 8 turbines on the platform.

WOW! The possibilities!

Reminds me of "Screaming" Lord Sutch's early European pirate station Radio Sutch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_City_(pirate_radio_station) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_City_(pirate_radio_station)) located on a Maunsell Sea Fort of the coast of England...

Like these, your location offers an ideal ground with a steel structure standing in salt water plus a 1/4 wave tower to hang a sloper from or possibly shunt feed (I hope you've got lots of pull there).

Even still, a kite supported vertical off the leeward edge would be very effective and out of the way.

Impressive!
