Title: Fell into my lap
Post by: WZ1M on July 02, 2019, 06:47:13 AM
Yesterday I picked up a Hallicrafters SX-73, HT-18 and a real nice HT-20. Units, I was told, are working. Along with this stuff came a 6', 19" roll around rack and, get this, the cabinet for the HT-20. The 73 has "ARMY" on one of the name plates. Guess I will try and fire up these oldies today to see what I have. Any thoughts on the values of all three of these. The SX-73 is all original, even down to the Allen wrench clipped to the inside, under the cover.
The HT-18 is a 7 on the 10 scale and does work, so I was told. The HT-20 looks all original and a set of tubes came with it. Pretty nice shape and was told, this did work not to long ago. Just looking to see what value these units are. Not looking to sell except the rack. but thats another subject.

Will try and get a few pics later this week. I did turn on the SX-73. Bunch of noise but no tracking. Took of the top cover and the two bell crank springs, one missing and one is gone, cant find it. Well, the reason there broke and missing is the main tune cap bearings/bushings were just a tad to tight. Oiled them up and now the main tune cap works great. Now, lets see if we can find two new springs. Several trips to hardware stores didnt have a thing. Ah-ha, ball point pen springs, just cut, bend to fit. Well, it did work but not enough tension then it dawned on me. Back to the hardware store and two small O-rings. Installed them and they work great. Now its tracking but frequencys on all bands are off 500KC. Time to dive in a little deeper later this week. One of the #44 lamps was burnt out, replaced that. S meter needle was sticking but close inspection showed the glass was cocked sidways and catching the needle. Removed S-meter, tore down, cleaned glass, bent the retaining ring just a tad in 4 places, reinstall and works great.
MORE TO COME LATER.
Regards,
Gary
