Title: Lots of tubes - 833, 575A, 845, 813, and more
Post by: KX4DV on May 05, 2019, 08:14:39 PM
Been going through the stuff I've cleared out from transmitter sites lately.  Here's a listing of the glass tubes I have.  I also have several 4-400 tubes, but haven't cleaned them yet.  I plan on modifying an amp I have to test the output of them.  These other tubes, I do not know the actual output of.  But I will indicate where they've been marked.  I will hipot test them for shorts.  And I might possibly be able to test filament function with some of the spare transformers I have laying around and a variac.  I'm looking for a R-388 or R-390/R-390A and some sort of transmitter to cover at least 80-10m with SSB/AM/CW and 100W.  (160m would be a bonus and anything over 100w)

From left to right, starting top to bottom.
1st row:
All of these are 833 tubes.
1 - Unknown Mfg.
2-5 - RF parts/Taylor - Made in china
6 - Russian
7-8 - RF parts/Taylor - Made in china
9-10 RCA
11- Svetlana (Russian)  MARKED WEAK EMERGENCY USE ONLY.

2nd row:
1-4 575A Made by RCA
Next section is all 845's.
1-2 RF Parts/Taylor MARKED WEAK
3 - Unknown mfg.
4-8 RCA
9 - Silvania
10 - Amperex
11-12 United Electronics

3rd row:
All of these are 813's.
1-4 - RCA
5 - National Electronics
6 - Dumont
7 - GE
8-9 Taylor

4th row:
1 - United electronics - Unknown at this time, can't find a number.
2 - RCA - Unknown as well, haven't found number.
3 - Silvania - 593 then the rest of the numbers aren't legible.
4 - This section (bag) is a group of 6J7 and 6J5 tubes.
5 - RCA 807
6-7 - Sovtek 5U4G
8-11 - National Electronics 5U4GB
12-15 Taylor (RF Parts, made in china) 5U4G
16 - Sovtek 5U4G

Had a lot of people asking about the 4-400's.

One of them turned out to be a dud in testing, shows continuity from grid to plate.  I guess I'll keep that as a paperweight.  ;D

Anyhow left to right.  And the first one I'll show a picture of up close.

1. Eimac 4-400c, has a powder/residue inside of it.  Showed filament contunity and no shorts from grid to plate.  Doesn't look like it's been ran before from the paint on the tube still being 100%.   I have no idea on this one folks....

2. Unknown, this one has a different design than any of the others.

3 and 4.  Eimac 4-400c

5 - 7. Penta 4-400c

8- 10 Sylvania 4-400a

Truth be told, I kinda am thinking about holding onto either the Eimacs or Sylvanias,  I've got a set of chimneys, sockets, filament transformers, and a plate transformer that I could build into an amp.  Course if someone wants to build their own amp, I'd turn loose of all that too.  (Even have some enclosures too)

Tested the 833s with a makeshift filament transformer (variac)  The top row shows filaments with amperage draws 8.9 to 9.9 amps at 10vac.  The second row show abnormalities.  5a, 11.06a, and 9.3a.  That last tube is marked emergency use only.  I only have tested them with a volt meter for shorts.  My 1kv hipot tester is MIA at the moment.
