I am needing to replace/repair a tuning slug in my Collins 300G. The coil form split in half and the magnet wire is looking pretty bad. Any information would be appreciated.

This coil is identified in the Collins manual as item #133. It is located in the upper left hand part of the cabinet looking from the front. It is center tapped, 2-1/2" O.D., #14bus, 3-3/4" x 5-3/8". Collins manual part number 502-4793-002. Inside there is an aluminum(?) slug that is pulled/pushed left or right by a tuning motor to control the final plate currect loading.

If someone has one available for sale please let me know.

Any ideas or suggestions on a replacement, a substitute or repair suggestion are welcomed

You might try to get a hold of Paul WA3VJB who is running a 300G like yours mfg 1946. Its his
mainstay transmitter. He is listed on QRZ and there is a email address on there for him. He may have what you need or some advice on how to repair yours? Tell him Terry W2PFY said Hello........and that I recommended that you contact him. It looks like Paul lives about 50 miles NW of you?

Paul is the reason I have this transmitter. It cane from the Bowie Radio and Television museum where he had this transmitter on display. He is looking through his vast inventory of radio parts, so far no luck.

It looks like I will have to repair this coil form somehow and replace the magnet wire which no longer has any enamel on it.

I remember those motors with the 'roll-up' springs that move the slugs. There was another set of posts on here about fixing the things, but I can't find it.
