On the TS-520, adjust the carrier balance pot, VR3 on the Generator unit. On the TS-820, it's VR5 on the IF unit. This will produce single sideband AM. This is as simple as it gets, but I don't actually recommend it. If you want to do the AM mode justice with those rigs, you'll need to move past 'simple'. Disabling the balanced modulator (or at least preventing carrier removal) and bypassing the sideband filter is what it would take.
