Title: Hard to believe this actually worked (correctly!!).
Post by: steve_qix on February 19, 2019, 09:30:18 PM
I was going through some old pictures from 2001, and found this - the first 1kW solid state pulse width modulator I ever built.  Unbelievable that it actually worked, but it did and I used it for quite a while before laying out PC boards.

Amazing !!

Wowsers!  I need to build me one of those!

Hiram would be elated.

Ross Hull would be mortified!

Never underestimate the magic of clip leads!

I wonder what's on that bench today... and what's to come!  :)

When you consider what stray inductances and capacitances can do, it amazes me all the more!

is the bag of orange drops part of the circuit?

Para-sympathetic capacitance!  ;)

I think I'll hang that pic up in the shack!

my experience has often been that a prototype (as in your example) works perfectly but the following pilot run doesn't

.... Murphy will have his pound of flesh ! ....

Another excellent picture to set as desktop wallpaper to annoy my obsessively neat coworker.  ;D

Looks like something I had on the bench 2 weeks ago.  Mine had less components but more clip leads.

Yep:  Murphy was sitting on my shoulder; the clip lead version worked, the soldered together version with the same identical components didn't.

Can I show this in Ham Nation as to how to start a project?   Of course it worked!   I do believe each of us have done similar things before and each of
them amaze us how well they work !

Keep that soldering iron close by and hot.

Thanks Steve

How fun....love home brew projects and especially ones that work really good Who cares about how they look.   Usually not on ATV so all we have to worry about is they the projects sound good....

....and yep - a Pine Board KW.  Now that's funny !

Show that pic to the XYL and tell her that you are going to do the same.

Show that pic to the XYL and tell her that you are going to do the same.

Do this after you have picked out the new transmitter but before purchasing it. As a way of 'running it by the XYL'.
