Title: Re: Richmond Frostfest Action Post by: w8khk on February 01, 2019, 07:11:57 PM Thanks for sharing the photos, Steve. Looks like everyone is having a great time, and staying warm inside. I seriously considered coming this year, but it seems FrostFest always falls on the same weekend as the AM Rally. I have accomodations available in Virginia, but since there are no antennas there, I stayed in Georgia.

Title: Re: Richmond Frostfest Action Post by: Todd, KA1KAQ on February 03, 2019, 12:26:56 PM You missed a good one, Rick - was wondering if we'd see you there.
TNX for posting those shots, Steve - a good hint but hardly scratches the surface. You could've spent the whole 'fest taking photos and still not gotten it all. It was a great event aside from the horse feed, jewelry, plants, and other non-radio junk tables. Really good turn out and a LOT of good radio stuff to be had CHEAP. For example, how about a Hallicrafters R-12 table speaker (the one with the big wooden H on front) in decent shape for $25? Or a SX-115 complete & unmodified but dirty & cruddy from being in a basement, for $100? A nice, early 20s Westinghouse RA-DA pair for $150? The Hammarlund matching speaker for the HQ-129X in good condition for $15? The list is looooooooong. Then there were all those complete radios on the GMS table marked....$5 each?? SX-25, Sky Buddy, Super Pro w/PS, National, RCA, on and on. Yessiree - a lot of good stuff cheap. Not looking for anything (as usual), I still managed to score a handful of goodies including an ancient Raytheon tube tester & chart for $5 and a Radiola IIIA panel & chassis complete w/transformers for $5, both from the GMS pile. Some much-needed long clip leads 2 bundles/$5, a Command set/ARC-5 MC-211-A tuning spline 90 degree adapter for 50 cents along with a knob for my Johnson KW Matchbox and a couple others for 50 cents each. A few of us got together Friday night at a BBQ spot Joe/GMS suggested for some great ribs, beer, apple crisp, and more. Along with Joe and Martha were WX1O, W3JN, K4HX and myself. It was a good feed. Likewise the lunch we enjoyed after the fest Saturday courtesy of GMS Radio at Dot's. Food & conversation were excellent, it was 3PM before we knew it. Got to meet Bill/KC4QAA and was finally able to deliver some long-overdue parts to Chris from Western VA (whose new call sign escapes me). Also saw Nick/K4NYW and JP/K4OZY along with many others. A fantastic way to shake off the cabin fever made worse by colder-than-normal temps this winter. Enjoyed seeing everyone and getting a chance to catch up. TNX to 'JN to transport and the Joe/GMS for lunch. And a special thank you to Martha for anchoring the table for the entire crew as we wandered around or just yammered away. Title: Re: Richmond Frostfest Action Post by: KA0HCP on February 03, 2019, 01:27:34 PM Very nice 'fest, and so nice to put faces with callsigns. Lots of good buys at reasonable prices, but I had to keep my wallet closed as I'm presently packing up to move from Southern Maryland back to the family farm in Kansas at end of March. Cheers, bill
Title: Re: Richmond Frostfest Action Post by: W3GMS on February 03, 2019, 05:03:42 PM Martha and I had a great time at the Fester. It was good to hang out with a lot of great friends. Steve, thanks very much for all the pictures and glad we could help out with the table duties. Martha had a great time as well. With us leaving around 8AM this morning, we got back home around 12:30PM. It was also great meeting some folks that I have not had the pleasure of meeting before.

At least the thumbnails are... EDIT: Just the thumbnails... oddly. EDIT: Just the thumbnails... oddly. Same thing has happened when I have posted photos on AMFone over the last year or two, same outcome - upside down thumbnails, but full sized images show right side up. FWIW, I have always posted from one of our iMacs or an iPhone. Great pix BTW! Title: Re: Richmond Frostfest Action Post by: KA8WTK on February 04, 2019, 02:11:31 PM Sorry I could not make the show this year. I like to combine being in VA for my grand daughter's birthday with going to the fest. Timing was just off this year. AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
