Title: AM Rally Software to support importing of ADIF files
Post by: steve_qix on January 15, 2019, 09:27:15 PM
I am in the process of adding a feature to the AM Rally Logging Software to allow the user to import an ADIF file (.adi extension is typical), and then upload the imported data to the logging server.

I have 3 .adi files that I received during last year's rally, and have been using these as test cases.

I have noticed that some of the .adi logs do not contain much information - such as what rig the operator is using, sometimes the name is missing, etc.  In some cases the country code is missing.  In this case, the logging software will assume US, but that could be wrong.  That is an aside, but if using a logger other than the AM Rally Logger, try to make sure things like equipment, names, and countries (country codes) are included in your logs - thanks  ;)

Need Help Testing:  In order to ensure the ADIF translation code I wrote is working properly for all cases, if anyone has any ADIF logs around, by all means send them to me and I will import them into the logger and do testing.

Any logs you might have can be sent to logs@amrally.com, and I will test with them.  That would be much appreciated.

The version supporting the importing of ADIF files is has not been released yet.  Once I get some more testing, I will put the new version on the amrally web site, and make an announcement here.

Thanks and Regards,

Steve

Do you want a large file, with nearly 5000 contacts, or would something smaller be desired? I’ll try to remember to send you a copy of mine, created using LOG4OM. This is one of the more popular (free) programs being used

Either (or both, actually) might be a very good test.

Please send whatever you have along.

Thanks !!!

Sent you one file last night. Did you get it?

Thank you - yes !!  Good test.

I really appreciate it.  Do have some questions, having not ever used any of these loggers.

One thing that may be a problem resolving (but not a show stopper).
The country is stored as full text (i.e. United States, etc.) rather than the country code.
If it is always in a standard form, I should be able to translate the words to a country code by using a lookup table.

The names of operators worked appear to have been automatically looked up in a database, rather than entered manually (they are full names not just first names).
There aren't many comments - such as equipment, etc.

But, otherwise the AM Rally Logger was able to resolve your entire database of almost 5000 entries going back to 1971 !!!!  That's great.
