Title: Paint Removal from UTC Iron Post by: W9ZSL on July 26, 2018, 03:15:22 PM I have a UTC S-46 plate iron with flaking paint. It's textured but I plan to repaint it to match a choke that has been restored. Short of sand blasting, how can I remove the old paint most efficiently? Those vent fins don't help much and I sure don't want any gunk to get inside the case. Thanks! Mike W9ZSL

Take off the screws. Remove paint with paint stripper... wear gloves and keep the stuff off your skin (legs, arms, hands). Dry quickly to prevent rust. (water wash) Prime. The Rustoleum automotive rust reformer, or the one maked "self-etching" are both best bets. DRY THOROUGHLY (oven dry or two days in the hot sun) Then paint with wrinkle finish paint to match. (or other paint of your choice) Use the same type/brand paint for the overcoat though - unless you really oven dry the primer. _-_- Title: Re: Paint Removal from UTC Iron Post by: W9ZSL on August 01, 2018, 02:16:45 PM Thanks!
