Title: WALT HUTCHENS KJ4Kv
Post by: w2amr on July 19, 2018, 05:38:55 PM
Haven't heard Walt in many years. I noticed his license expired July 2015. Has anyone heard from him?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.  I didn't know him, but it seems he went SK years ago:

Removed improper obit.  Seems he had the same state and name as the Walt being discussed here.

Glad to hear he's not gone yet, but bummer he have up in ham radio.

Hold on there!   This obituary is not the same person as KJ4KV, who was born in 1939.

I presume the reason that the OP put the inquiry into the Military Surplus category originally is that Walt edited and wrote the ER in Uniform column in Electric Radio during the early years of the magazine, on military surplus radios.

That being said, KJ4KV is now an expired callsign, so something may have indeed happened to him.  It's just that the above is not his obituary.

I heard that he had lost interest in radio and moved on to other interests back in the early 1990's, and quit writing for ER, which seems odd.  I wrote him regarding some topic back in the mid-1990's and never got a reply.

A little Googling shows that he is now into breeding and showing whippets ( dogs similar to grayhounds).  I recall that someone saw him within the last few years at a Virginia hamfest where he said that was his main hobby of late.

I always wondered how anyone could lose interest in radio.  I have had mine for 52 years, and other than some sidetracks into cars and females, I have always been active.

Because were all different. I've seen plenty of people come and go from Amateur radio. Only us diehards stick around.  ;D
