Title: Motorcycle ignition ...Not AM related
Post by: KL7OF on June 08, 2018, 03:52:36 PM
I'm in Naknek Alaska. I have a 1987 Suzuki LS650 single cylinder "thumper".  This spring It wouldn't start and in checking the ignition system I have narrowed it down to the "ignitor box" as Suzuki refers to it...The pickup sensor and the coil check OK..The normal thing to do would be to purchase a replacement..It is very hard to find a new genuine replacement..There are several "used but good" on E-pay but I don't like the odds...So I'm wondering if I can repair it myself...I suspect that the transistor is the failed component .Transistor has  an "e" looking logo and the numbers D1071.  All I have here to test with is a digital VOM.  Any help would be appreciated.  I wanna ride..... Steve

It's a NPN Darlington transistor.  450v

Google 'D1071 transistor' and you'll see all the info including where to buy..

Simple go / no go may work.

Shows it as being a darlington config.

We have 13 mi of paved road and about twice that in pretty good gravel road...Not connected to the road system..So I hope this will fix the ign..I am anxious to ride.     73  Steve

Steve,

Bordentown is about 25 miles south of my QTH.  I thought maybe you ordered the device from one of my distributors in north Jersey near Newark Airport.

Good luck with the repair, hopefully it works.
