I recently acquired a National RCQ boat anchor which I'd like to restore. It appears to be pretty complete (but filthy) except for missing the plug in crystal. I know this is a National NC-100 variant modified for the CAA by National Electrical Machine Shops in 1948. I've downloaded a fine manual for a similar (but not the same) RCP model which was online (to help me get started). However, I'd really love to get a copy of the schematic and manual for the RCQ version. I'm not an expert on these types of sets and don't want to screw up the rebuild by not having a proper schematic and manual. Had an RCP which was a nc 101 modified by the Shutig Co. for noise squelch. Damn fine RX.. I also have the original manual for the RCP, matching serial number, and maintenance log is rather complete. As far as I can tell, the RCP and RCQ look identical. Mine has the carrier operated audio squelch relay, I do not know if the RCQ includes that mod.
The front panel looks identical to pictures of the RCQ, including the C.O.N.S and XTAL/TUNE-ABLE switch and crystal (behind the panel). Mine has the modification legend attached to the front, identical to the one in the radioblvd link below. From reading, it appears that most or all RCQ receivers were modified under contract from either the RCL or RCK version receiver. Can anyone summarize what the differences between a National RCP (about 1945) and a slightly later RCQ (about 1948) would be? I believe that a 6C5 tube was changed to a 6H6 for the second detector but not sure about other changes. Regards, Mark |
