Title: WA1KNX Station Last Transmission & QRT Shutdown, Tomorrow. Post by: N6YW on March 19, 2018, 05:48:15 PM Greetings to all.
As of tomorrow, beginning at 2:00 PM Mountain time here in Tucson Arizona, I will be firing up Deano's station one last time. The Frequency will be 7293 kHz, Amplitude Modulation and using the 3 vertical beam. It will take a little while to orient myself on how he used that antenna but it should be pretty straight forward. I will begin at 1:00 pm or so, making station checks and adjustments etc. I hope the band cooperates. I will call Tim and others by phone, and please put the word out and let's send his QRT off in style. I will duplicate this message elsewhere. 73 de Billy N6YW Title: Re: WA1KNX Station Last Transmission & QRT Shutdown, Tomorrow. Despite the poor band conditions, I was able to collect some very good contacts during the WA1KNX operation yesterday. Mary held up very well and it made her feel very good to hear some familiar voices expressing gratitude over having known Deano, and that it was a fine testament to his character. It was an honor to do this and feel we should make the attempt to honor our fellow Amateurs in this manner when they become SK. Thanks to the moderators here for allowing the bandwidth to share in this event and of course, toasting Deano on a life well lived, and who collected some very fine and unique friends along the way. 73 de Billy N6YW Title: Re: WA1KNX Station Last Transmission & QRT Shutdown, Tomorrow. Unfortunately the prop wash from the oriental wrecking ball (Radio China) made it impossible. I also alerted Chuck, K1KW who has a very effective antenna for 40 meter work . Both of us could not hear even the faintest AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
signal. I was probably one of the first people to meet Deano in 1968. Sure gonna miss him, Tim WA1HnyLR |
