Title: Richard Measures AG6K SK
Post by: KD6VXI on March 18, 2018, 07:41:42 PM
It's with a heavy heart I'd like to pass along that Rich Measures, AG6K, has passed away.

He was most famously known for his parasitic suppressors and the nichrome wire theories.

An accomplished ham operator, engineer, author and many other things.

Didn't always see eye to eye with the man, but I did always respect him.

Godspeed Rich.  Here's to hoping your wife can find peace and the girls you employed in the parts business can move forward.

Oh.  :(

May I inquire, what was his age?

I came close to paying him to overhaul an SX-28 at one point. He was a notable ham who will be remembered a long time in a good way. His article on amps was canceled by the arrl ( that itself could be a recommendation? - I always wondered why it was called off and someone else hired to write that handbook article) but his article is online for what it is worth. RIP.

Yeah - speaking of which, regardless of if you liked the fellow or agreed with his ideas - that website
is more likely than not to go away in its entirety.

Suggest someone with the skills/storage space, skoff that up while it still exists... "archived" if
not "mirrored" online.

Archive.org is automatic.  Unless you specifically tell it NOT to index and archive a website, it will become aware of it, and it will archive it.

My old bigradios.com.is archived on there.  I NEVER told it to and I pulled the website in like 03.

OK glad it is independently archived.

In the past archive.org did not completely archive 'large' sites nor completely do 'hobbyist' sites. Disk space is cheaper now but I still do not trust it completely to be thorough. Indeed, things like 300MB PDF files seem to elude it..

I use HTTRACK. not perfect, and fiddly, but it will grab most.

You can also communicate with them and ask them to remove your site. I did years ago by phone, and they they would and they asked why.. I thought they were 'stealing' it.. they explained what they do, and I said oh, OK.

Having just caught the premier India 'electronics hobby magazine' site displaying my site articles by pulling from Bunker into their local frames at my bandwidth expense, I was in a suspicious mood. They did not have at least the courtesy to copy and mirror the articles.. THOSE people ignored me, until I hit up all their advertisers.. heh NI, TEK, HP, etc. then the response was swift.

What a funny place the web is!

Do NOT count on Archive.org to capture the full website of anything.

They typically only capture the "top" pages, and do not keep the images or the other
parts, including pdfs... Drawings, etc... gone.

Shame it is.
