Title: Tall Ships on 75 Meter AM during the Rally Post by: W1AEX on February 04, 2018, 04:50:17 PM Here's a picture of the almost continuous AM activity seen and heard at my location on 75 meters today (Sunday). Just before I took the screenshot there was a fifth tall ship conversation going on up on 3910. Five in a row would have been even better!

I tried the KFS Web SDR but it was hearing a lot of lightning crashes. I did hear Peanut Butter and Jam (WA6PBJ) making some contacts but I never even keyed the transmitter even though I had the FQA11N90s all warmed up and ready to go. This was Saturday.
Generally, the LA people have better luck than the Northern California people. LA is quite a bit east of SF. I wonder if they did this time. He was working quite a pileup, too.

Deano, wa1knx, got on the air, and mentioned that he didn't know the Rally was Rallying. I called him , and he may have heard the 2 part of my call; he said he was hearing some of the East coast;was using his 'local' antenna. Next year, Ima goina get an antenna up and work the left coast. klc Title: Re: Tall Ships on 75 Meter AM during the Rally Post by: KD6VXI on February 07, 2018, 07:22:44 PM We had no problem hearing you guys (on 75), even with my neighbors new solaredge solar system. Well, so the solar system did make armchair copy impossible, but otherwise, I was able to hear the big stations.
Also heard a couple AZ stations telling us here on the west coast to forget calling the east side. NOBODY was making it through / there was little to no standby in between transmissions / like us, east coasters also had a YUGE noise level. I was monitoring 3885. 7290-5 was vacant. As in, didn't even hear a heterodyne when moving around in ssb mode. I did fire a 20 Watt carrier up and could copy myself at KFS and Sedona. Propagation was there. I don't use 20, it obliterates the home alarm system culminating in me having to perform a power off reset. 15 is useless here. I really miss my 7k foot peak. East coast, as well as pacific rim was just too easy. --Shane KD6VXI Title: Re: Tall Ships on 75 Meter AM during the Rally Post by: Todd, KA1KAQ on February 09, 2018, 05:43:24 PM Very nice screenshot, Rob. Curious to know - was there any activity below the usual 75m cluster? I recall looking at the display at Steve/HX's place some years back during either Heavy Metal or the AM Transmitter contest and seeing signals like that extending below 3700. It was fun to run a frequency for a while, then step aside and go from group to group working different stations up and down the band, coast-to-coast.

I was on 3.705, 3.721, and 3.749. The only callback I received on 3.705 was a Canadian Ham. I didn't get the chance to play down there as my grandsons showed up and kept me pretty busy with the usual 4 year-old and 6 year-old activities.
