Title: Heard Fortunato, Jean and from USA Steve and Ken!
Post by: pe1mph on February 03, 2018, 03:01:05 AM
Hello AM Lovers,

First this morning I was qso-ing with 9H1ES and F6AQK on 3660 khz.
Just before 06:00 hour (by me) I heard weak signals on 3885 and 3870 from the USA.
Very strange conditions, because Fortunato were in the beginning stronger then Jean!!
Later, around 06:15 Jean got a bigger signal then Fortunato.
And we heard (again) a weak carrier on 3660 khz without audio.... from who?

After our qso I listen again around 3885 but I hear no station.
On 3880 I heard Steve WA1QIX very strong!!!
He moved a little on the freq. to 3870 and talking with Carolina station?
I tried with my Allbander to get contact... perhaps 25 Watts is to low....

Later I listen in our livingroom, evenso Oene PD0POM did.
We had contact by Whats App, and we both heard Steve strong!

Hi, hi.... I were falling nearly from my chair when I heard Ken W2DTC!! :D
A pity his signal were not strong, but most I could hear.

Ken were a little to late on freq. because conditions going back.
I heard he did say my call... hi, hi....

This were a nice AM morning, sure.
I made some recordings in our livingroom with the Kenwood R-5000.
Connect with the Inverted V, swr on 3660 1:1.

Greetings,

wow!  Thanks for the great recordings.  Conditions were very good - quite noticable on the 2nd and 3rd recordings you posted.

Also, I think I have too much bass in my audio  :P  But that's another story.

Thanks again.

Regards, Steve

Steve,
This morning I sent mail to Ken (W2DTC): It looks like normal to hear Steve every morning!
Yes Steve this morning I heard you again between 06:00 - 06:30 hours our time (after I go to work).
Sometimes I wait long.... hi, hi.... because I only hear you on 3885 khz.
Except some days ago I heard Ken evenso.

Hi, hi..... this morning you had a talk with my vriend Jan, a great AM-lover. :)

I say till a next time(s),

Hi Jan,

was that recorded AT YOUR LOCATION, or were you using an SDR located somewhere else?  If that is from your location - WOW, is all I can say.  We have had some amazing conditions on 75 meters lately, but I had no idea propagation was THAT good.  Really something.

Thanks for the great contact during the AM Rally.

Talk later and Regards,

Steve

That is really amazing!  Some of us should go down to the low end of the 75 meter band and work folks over in your part of the world.  The conditions won't be like this for much longer.

What would be the best times and the best frequency (or frequencies) to use?

Propagation has been excellent lately. I've been hearing SSB signals from Europe that have reached at high at 30 and 40-over-9! When these conditions prevail, AM QSOs should be much easier.
