Title: Western Electric 451A-1 Transmitter
Post by: AB3L on September 28, 2017, 10:46:26 AM
I have had this in safe keeping for a while. Time to turn this piece of broadcast history over to someone that will take her to the next step.

There is a service sticker on the door from Graybar Electric in Columbia, SC. The crystal oven is labeled 1230 kc. , so if correct, this would have been a WOIC transmitter.
When I got it there was a mild cleaning done before it entered my garage. I meggered the iron and all looked good except for a choke that showed a short. I baked it on a steam line for a week to get the potting to flow. After that, it checked good.

I have four Amplitrex tested VT4c's,  and four 350B's ( 2@ WE), tested with a TV7 D/U.

250W

Has etched front door glass and gasket, slight crack in extreme top 1-1/4" corner. Safety plate glass so glass still in place at crack. Blue anodized aluminum shrouding is included.

Has all meters, including optional output meter. A Bauer remote tuning motor was installed in the rear of the housing and connected to the output control that was on the front panel. It can all be put back to original as the WE knob is still with it.

Most recent item I took care of was freeing up dried lube in inductor links. Some front dials were inoperable because of this. They now operate smooth.

If I remember right this is rated at around 700 lb. Heavy iron is loose from last haul, but cabinet is still heavy.

Asking $1300. or reasonable offers. Send a PM to me here.

Pictures available, but just found not on this computer to do it now.

Thanks,
