Easiest thing to do is put power across the whole winding and measure the voltages at the taps. From the neutral terminal to the first tap may be 6-7 volts, used to power a panel light. A second one from the other end of the winding.
I think I remember seeing one with taps at 37.5 volts for some reason. I have about 30 variacs and powerstats, I'd have to take a look the ones still not in use.
