Title: UA3/W6 QRT Post by: Tom WA3KLR on September 02, 2017, 11:24:13 AM Have any of you noticed the broadband HF dipole on top of the Russian consulate building in San Francisco?
It looks like there is a three wire cage due to the triangular spacers. Title: Re: UA3/W6 QRT Post by: KL7OF on September 03, 2017, 09:15:49 AM What is that black smoke?
Title: Re: UA3/W6 QRT Post by: VE3ELQ on September 03, 2017, 10:07:12 AM What is that black smoke? Maybe they just elected a new Russian Pope. ;) Title: Re: UA3/W6 QRT Post by: KD6VXI on September 03, 2017, 10:58:48 AM Isn't that the consulate that was ordered closed?
Might explain some black smoke....... --Shane KD6VXI Title: Re: UA3/W6 QRT Post by: Tom WA3KLR on September 03, 2017, 01:25:17 PM Yep, much burning of documents and perhaps some electronics gadgetry.

73DG Title: Re: UA3/W6 QRT Post by: W6TOM on September 03, 2017, 02:55:01 PM The Russian Consulate is on Pacific Heights a very expensive part of San Francisco, I remember back in the 80's when there was large Navy presence in the Bay Area, Alameda Naval Air Station and Mare Island Navy bases, they had LOTS of antennas on the roof of the consulate. Some of the neighbors complained about the "unsightly antennas", pretty is important in SF.
So the Russians built a privacy fence along the roof perimeter to hide those antennas. In any event, they had numerous antennas on the roof then, too. Land based version of a Russian trawler, so to speak. The Army and Air Force had a lot of activity in San Francisco in addition to the Navy in those days.
