Title: What was the use/application of this resistor?? Post by: wb1ead on May 01, 2017, 05:25:30 PM Hello all..found a puzzling to me resistor at a local flea market (not a hamfest)..it's a rather large pwr resistor of only 1 ohm..is this maybe a "damp chaser" used in some rigs in an always on state to help with stability of vfo/oscillators?
Here's the specs...made by Clarostat Dover NH..1 ohm..no wattage given..box label says VK-100-N..1 ohm..370-222 physical size 6" long by 3/4" usual hollow ceramic wire wound..solder tabs one on each end Sure if I was a better "looker-upper" on the web I just might get my answer..sadly I'm not able to!..valuable?..does someone here need it? thx in advance! 73 de DAVE..Nearfest is just around the corner..YEA!! Budly I built a load box something like the one you pictured. 0.4 ohms at 1800 watts and 0.6 ohms at 1200 watts. Two sections, using all 300 watt Ohmite resistors. Good deal. We use a multitude of load boxes at work from 100 to 10,000 amps for testing Telecom power systems. I've replaced many of these resistors and load elements in my time!!! Good to hear from you Fred (no longer 51!) |
