My father was a Heathkit building machine until I was about 5 or 6 years old.  I think that's where my neurosis for building stuff came from.

My interest in ham radio started from a Heathkit solid state HF receiver.  When I was 13, I found it buried in the garage.  I asked my father what it was and he said, "Oh, you don't want to get involved with that."  I insisted, and we unwound a transformer to make an antenna.  We made a huge cubical long wire antenna in my bedroom.  Probably about 20 turns of wire around the ceiling.

Looking back, that was a lot of effort to make an antenna.

Anyway, just reminiscing.

I always admired that conduction cooled linear amplifier. I know it had a low duty cycle and all but for what it was designed for it was pretty cool.
