Title: W2DU's last project.........
Post by: WA4WAX on March 07, 2017, 01:41:47 PM
W2DU's last project involved MRI and NMR.  I was the principal, and he was the "bounce off" man.  He was very helpful and keenly interested.

What came of it:  The world's first full duplex MR/NMR coil.  Would that he would have lived to seen it.
The prototype runs on proton and carbon.

The picture shows a carbon 13 spectrum of ethyl alcohol, or ethanol........or booze.

To the left, the proton spins are coupled to the carbon 13 nuclei.

In the middle, RF on the proton frequency decouples the protons from the carbon 13 nuclei, and each carbon collapses to one peak.

To the right, we decouple again, but with Nuclear Overhauser Effect enhancement.

Enjoy!

Unfortunately, I have no clue what this means or its purpose or use.

The key to success here is using cold 807's in the final amplifier to activate the ethanol and Carbon 13!  ;)

LOL! The amp needs to be linear.  No class C stuff here.

Well, it just so happens that carbon 13 resonates down in the lower part of 6 meters in a 4.7 Tesla magnet.  Proton is right around 200 MHz.

Here is a look at carbon 13 enriched urea.  Enrichment here is 99%.

Can this be modulated in the conventional way? If so, what percentage  can it be modulated before second order distortion occurs?

What mod transformer would be needed to plate modulate it?  Or can this only be glass modulated?

I'm impressed!   ;D
Feels good too to be spinning free again.
You don't know what boring is until your stuck living right next to neutrons all your life.
