Title: Electrovoice 619 Mic question Post by: WA2SQQ on February 16, 2017, 09:00:12 PM I found an Electrovoice 619 mic at a garage sale. The model label on the bottom of the base is gone. According to my research, there were two versions, Hi-Z and Lo-Z. In the neck of the mic I found a small audio matching transformer wrapped in the backing paper of an Avery label. This leads me to believe that it was added by the previous owner. The transformer also suggests that this is the Hi-Z version.
I found the owners manual, though it does not mention or show the transformer in the schematic. Does anyone have any info? My goal is to have the Lo-Z version. Title: Re: Electrovoice 619 Mic question Post by: W7TFO on February 16, 2017, 09:29:37 PM Dynamic mics are by nature all low-impedance, usually between 50 and 250 Ohms.
The high-Z version would've had a transformer to accomplish grid-level impedance, not the reverse. Someone probably added that transformer to run it with a tube amp or transmitter. Just remove it for low-impedance use. You will need a balanced input preamp that will be happy with somewhere around a -45 dB level. 73DG Title: Re: Electrovoice 619 Mic question Post by: WA2SQQ on February 17, 2017, 09:42:59 AM I'm glad I asked - I was not aware the mic element was a balanced connection. So I can go into my Behringer mixer through the balanced input? Planning on using it with my Flex 6500, so I may be able to go directly into the balanced input and click the +20db boost if I need more drive.
