Title: Crazy idea... 2 and/or 6 Meter AM net in Florida
Post by: n4joy on January 13, 2017, 09:29:25 AM
After my ongoing and terrible experience with 6 meter AM (no to minimal activity even during openings), I have this crazy idea to seek out some 2 meter AM interest.  I have yet to hear 2 or 6 meter AM activity in Florida (other than a few locals) despite several years of regular monitoring and calling CQ, but I am willing to run a weekly net on either band if there is interest.  There used to be a 50.4 AM net in the Orlando area but this appears to be no more.

I wish folks would start using the Gonset and Clegg equipment that regularly sells on ePay!

Anyone interested--particularly fellow Floridians?  Am I wasting my time?

 Hi Chris,

Over the past several years I have tried to stir up some VHF AM activity in Florida.  Twice there seemed to be others capable and willing to try, but became no-shows.

I invested in an ICOM 746PRO and beams twice for this.  This past spring was not too good for 6 meters here even for SSB.  Made maybe two AM contacts.

Do you want to try 40 meter AM?

Hi, Ed.  Good to know I am not alone!  I was willing to invest in a new 2 meter beam or quad if there was interest.  At least we tried!

Funny you mention 40 meters.  I constructed a 40 meter folded dipole with some Radio Shack 300 ohm TV twin lead that was on sale for just a few dollars.  My plan was to get my Lettine on 40 meters, but I need to purchase a 7290 kc and 7295 kc crystal from AF4K (no VFO) .  I do have a 7275 kc crystal though.

We can try 7.275 and see what happens.  Most likely we will receive the wrath of some net.

I am ready to go with the Kenwood TS-590 and an amp.  In fact, have been CQ-ing day and night lately with little response on 7.290 to 7.295.

My Gonset GSB-100 needs to be used, so maybe I can find operating space for it.

Ed,

I will send you a PM when the tower is up--hopefully this will be tomorrow or Monday.
