Title: Collins 310-B Cap Replacement ?
Post by: Carl WA1KPD on September 29, 2016, 11:23:50 AM
Hello all,

I have a Collins 310 B, the 15 watt exciter they built in the 50s. It works fine but I am planning on replacing the electrolytics and several wax caps and one of those purple black beauty type caps.

There are a number of light tan postage stamp type caps that I have never seen. Anyone know how well these hold up, or should I plan on replacing those.

Carl

A picture might help. Are you referring to the tan ones in the picture below?

I'm pretty much there. The only ones I am not bothering with are the several bath tub caps that are part of the sidetone circuit. I don't see using that so am not concerned.
HUGE difference when I replaced the .02 that went from the power cord to ground. That baby was leaking.

Someone previously added a home brew brute force AC filter wound on two dowels and covered with the old cloth electrical tape. I think I am going to pull it while I am in there as I suspect it was put in for TVI purposes.

I understand 160 is a simple as changing the PA coil to a 160 one and running the bandswitch in the 80 meter position?
Thank for the help Steve!
