Title: Any activity on 15-meters these days ...
Post by: W7NGA on August 09, 2016, 10:15:35 AM
Greetings ... I've been in Europe for the last six weeks and have relocated to the mountains of Northwest Oregon. Hopefully I can get the rig out of storage on San Juan Island and set up a station here soon. Just curious, before I left for vacation I noticed that 15-meters was always dead. I could hear W1AW code practice .. though weak, but absolutely no AM stations up on 21.43 Mhz. I have had more fun on 15-meters AM than at any time in my 51 years as a ham, but something has changed!

Anybody working 15 these days? If so .. keep an ear out on 21.43 Mhz in the next few days for the rather feeble signal from W7NGA in the wilds of Oregon. Flex 6500 barefoot, some kind of wire in the trees, down low, for now.

I haven't heard any 15 meter AM activity since the Spring. Called CQ a number of times and got zero results. Even the SSB stations are sparsely populated. Of course, contests brings out more activity. Sunspot numbers have been below 100 for many weeks with lots of periodic unsettled conditions.  10 meters has had some Sporadic E openings over the summer but with little to no AM activity. 20 meters seems to be the best band for coast to coast or around the country AM operating. 40 and 80 meters are having their typical summertime static annoyances. You haven't missed much at all.

sadly ... I have had the Extended-Zepp up for a week now and have NOT heard a signal on 15-meters.
I had to go back and look at the log to see that once upon a time I worked hundreds of 15-meter AM stations this time of year.
sigh ...

15, 12, and 10 meters has been quiet. SFT 79, A=11, K=2
Most of any propagation seems to be trans-equatorial. Ola
20 meters seems to be hopping with signals but can't raise anyone on AM.
Even 6 meters is quiet after many days of openings.
This sucks. Probably will sell all the equipment and take up knitting.

Signals on 15-meters today (2000Z). CW and SSB, so dust off those boat-anchors!

Heard G8NOF pounding in on 21.430 this afternoon around 1 PM EDT. Warmed the equipment up to give him a call, but, either he went QRT or band conditions changed as I couldn't raise him.
So 15 meters still has some life left in it.
