ANY PICTURES OF BROADCAST TRANSMITTERS AT THIS YEARS HAM FEST ???

I saw nary a one in the flea market. The WX was on-and-off rain, especially on Saturday, so I suspect folks didn't want to drag them out into the weather. I did score a nice Collins 212Z-1 remote audio board. And I did get a lead on a Collins 20V-2 in Western Mass. Price is $500. It's a tad far for me in SW FL. If anyone is interested I can give them the owners' contact info.

I was there Friday and didn't see any broadcast transmitters.  With the rain Saturday, I headed home a day early to south Arkansas.
My legs and hips were giving me fits from all the walking in the flea market, so, I didn't need much encouragement to cut things short and head home.
I did pick up a nice metal lathe down in Indiana where I was staying, so I didn't come back empty handed.

I am fairly sure that there is one like that in the middle south states there, from our own Todd, KA1KAQ for sale NOW in the For Sale section... maybe not too far??

              

Hams hauling broadcast transmitters around to hamfests??

At Dayton, the weird and wacky stuff can show up and broadcast transmitters are no exception.

Actually it's the 20V-2's bigger brother, the 21E. Think 20V-2 x3. This is the very transmitter that was converted and used by Gary/W2INR for many years from Syracuse NY. Truly a thing of beauty, sounds as great as it looks. But definitely not for everyone, especially not the weak of mind, heart, or back. You have to be a pretty serious AMer to maintain and operate a transmitter like this. Casters help, too.  ;D

Good news - looks like it will be making the trip north with me after all. Jen and I have decided that rather than tearing apart the finished basement at the new place for a station, we're going to build a separate workshop/station out back. So I'll have room for it. Hope to have it back on the air sometime in 2017.

Convincing my very understanding ham XYL (N4YAK) to get a Collins 20V-2, the size of a side-by-side refrigerator, is one thing...but getting her to go along with the idea of three refrigerators operating next to each other is a whole other ball game!  ;D

Phil, K2PG has a 21E on the air WITH 3 phase power..........so it's all ready to put out 5KW, if needed.

Single phase power is considerably cheaper, and a pair of 450s will put out all the power I'll ever want and then some. Not being a corntester, always being heard first isn't important to me. Though Gary never had an issue cutting through the noise and was always (to use an old FM term) full quieting.  

Best of all, the glass tubes look far better than the original ceramics. Especially when lit.

Phil took advantage of the opportunity to get three phase power and went for it. If someone knows how to wire and deal with 3 phase hook-up more power to them..

Pretty much anyone can have the opportunity to have 3 phase power, it's more a matter of cost. It's considerably more expensive than 120/240. When Gary converted the 21E from ceramic to glass tubes, he also made a clean conversion to single phase. This makes it useable pretty much anywhere there's a standard household drop.

That console looks like something out of a recording studio. The lighting is especially nice. You must enjoy using it a lot Fred, sitting there basking in the warm glow.  ;)

Gary got that console out of WBZ TV and in its heyday was a $30,000 project. I use it for my Flintstone Show on WBCQ...Capable of a lot more than what I use it for. But utilized a lot more than a Ham AM QSO. I converted all of the incandescent lamps on the 8 VU meters to LED. Wheatstone was offering LED lighting kits for those and I jumped for it in 2010.
