Title: symetrix 528E broken
Post by: KL7OF on February 13, 2016, 01:25:07 PM
I bought a symetrix 528 e at a garage sale for $5...and it doesn't have output...The mic amp, the de-ess the compressor section seem to work (the lights blink) but ...the output lights don't blink and no measureable RMS voltage from the output port..This is an old box with discrete components so I might be able to repair it if I knew how and what to test...I have no manual or schematic....anybody have any ideas?
Thanks in advance...Steve KL7OF

Here's the User Guide. It has, at least, a Block diagram.

No skiz but here are some suggestions:

Turn off all functions in an attempt to get straight through audio.

Check the position of the switch SW7, page 35 and make sure it is in Line level mode.

Good Luck.

Well....Thanks for all the help....What a great group...I was even sent copies of schematic...all for nought I'm afraid......I had the 528 on the bench with the cover off and a mic plugged in ....when I turned around, I caught the mike cord and the whole shebang hit the concrete floor....the knobs all flew off and the power transformer ,which is held in by a wire tie, went skidding across the floor and came to rest against the wood stove....I have lost all interest in this project....Better luck next time....Steve......

wow, what a bitter end  :'(  That's too bad, really.  I've had stuff like happen (physical damage).  Never good.

I bet that shop was reverberating with self loathing obscenity's!
I know mine is when that happens.
