Title: W2ZM in the hospital
Post by: W2ZE on February 05, 2016, 07:31:48 PM
All,

Just to let everyone know who knows my OM that Bob, W2ZM, is in the hospital recovering from double bypass surgery. He went in for an annual exam and the doctor noticed some irregularities with his heart. One thing leads to another, before you know it he's told on Tuesday  that he needs surgery on Thursday. He is recovering at Strong memorial hospital  in Rochester, NY today, but has had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and has just woken up this afternoon. His breathing tube is out, but will need much more recovery than expected.
Please hold off on any calls or well wishes to him directly, as he is still in ICU and will be for some time. Just wanted to everyone know of the situation. Please keep him your prayers. Thanks.

Mike, W2ZE

Same here. .. The very Best for Bob.
Back when I lived in N. Pa., as WA3YPI and just a couple of hours south of Rochester I had neat AM QSO's with Bob .  Got a very nice photo QSL card with Bob and Bruce Kelly on the W2AN memorial xmitter.  Fun days and come to think of it, Bob's the one that got me interested in AWA.

Hi Mike -

Cheez, what a rash of bad news after going in for a simple exam!  It can happen to anyone.

Bob is my main man. We spent a lot of time together getting him optimized for the 75M DX window. He put up a 4 element wire array and built a new amp. He was king of the band into Europe. He's a first class competitor.

Probability says he will be OK and make a full recovery.  Bob is a tough bird, for sure. Tell him I am thinking of him and hope to chat soon.

T

Here's to a speedy recover. Always enjoyed Bob's wit and technical prowess.

I second that. Don't think I ever met your dad but I've listened to him a lot over the years in casual QSO, AWA events, and so on. A very sharp guy with loads of knowledge well beyond radio. Best wishes for a fast and thorough recovery.

Hey Mike, hope he is doing better. I had a lot of QSO's with him back around 07 and since I am on only in the warmer months, it hard to catch him. Does he still do the long wave stuff? I should break out my old Scott Navy Radio and give a listen..

Give us an update and tell him, I said Hello!

I hope he feels better. Don't know him, but, like others, have heard him ofttimes and he knows his stuff.

I was in contact with Mike several days ago and at that time they were expecting to send him home pretty soon.  Not sure if that happened, but that was the expectation.

I sent him a card to his home address...

The update is good, he is home and resting. Again, cards would be ok, but please refrain from picking up the telephone. he needs the rest. Thanks.
