Seems that this circuit does every thing except walk your dog for you , and balance your checkbook!
 If so useful, why isn't is being used?

That is what I am asking.

I had never seen it before.  Just found it one evening while cruising old issues of Electronics World.

I have never been on 75 AM, and must confess a certain aversion to class C amplifiers.

I was hoping someone might provide technical insight.

Please remember that this thing was published at the sunset of the AM era.  Most people had either moved to SSB, or were in the process of doing so.

the clamp tube screen modulator is a quick and dirty (with the emphasis on dirty) way to get on am ... a much better way is to use a cathode follower with a negative voltage offset ... see the Heath dx60 mods done this way ... k4tax did one and then measured the tx performance ... impressive

Do you mean the article was published about the same time as the SSB fad began to saturate the mass market?
