Title: JOhnson Viking 500 VFO
Post by: Detroit47 on September 03, 2015, 03:17:29 PM
I am having problems with the VFO on my John Five. The VFO works fine on 160 but wont calibrate on 40. Do these units have any known problems? I can calibrate on the top end of 40 but can't get to the bottom. My first thought is the shotgun approach and just replace all the silver mica caps and dog bones. And before someone makes the comment that the 500 doesn't have 160 the VFO runs on 160 and 40 fundamentals.

Thanks John N8QPC

Be careful doing that, at least one of those caps in each of  the tank circuits are temperature compensating and you could wind up in drift city.

Mine tracks fine, so I'd say it's not an inherent problem.
