Title: 802 tube applications Post by: k7mdo on August 08, 2015, 10:31:48 PM Pawing around in my stash of old tubes I ran across a pair of NIB 802's. In looking them up I was surprised just how little power dissipation they could tolerate.... somewhat surprised I guess because of their overall size.
I googled them up and found only one circuit diagram for them. The circuit used three of them, one for an oscillator, one for frequency multiplier followed by another for amplifier.... to produce 2-3 watts (AM modulated) rf. Does any currently "in use" boat anchor use these or am I really looking at dust collectors of the future? 73 Title: Re: 802 tube applications Post by: Opcom on August 08, 2015, 11:00:03 PM well, 10W tube. Nice looking. Interesting that there's an application with a 200V positive suppressor voltage. It's nice and linear. There should be many other published uses beside that one that don't require power where these characteristics are an advantage. Finding them might be a chore. Here are likely QST articles. Can't help with what gear uses them.

One can easily build a second stage with one, supressor modulated, then on to a linear amp for AM. 73DG Title: Re: 802 tube applications Post by: Opcom on August 09, 2015, 09:36:18 PM It's really a good tube. I liked the "Feb 1938 - QST (Pg. 48) Audio Peak Limiter for Speech Amplifiers" and I wonder what might have replaced it for audio that has as much linearity?
Title: Re: 802 tube applications Post by: k7mdo on August 09, 2015, 11:19:21 PM I am convinced to keep them in the active box! Along with my 860's.... a project still accumulating parts for a TNT, maybe use them someday.... AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
