Title: VE8NSD Field Day Style! Post by: WD8BIL on April 27, 2015, 10:15:36 AM Saturday 4/25 I was at the hunting camp with the IC 746 on battery power. The 40 meter dipole at 25ft had an swr of 1.7:1 at 21.430MHz. The internal tuner had no problem with that.
I was grilling some venison chops when the squelch opened and I heard VE8NSD call CQ. He was S9+10. I answered and we had a great QSO for about 30 minutes. VE8 is the Northwest Territory!!! 1978 miles from the cabin. Also worked on 15M was K5TED. All with a 37 watt carrier from the 746 on battery power!!! I'll be down there again this coming weekend. I think I've only ever worked NWT once or twice on any mode. Never on AM.

I much prefer sitting and chatting with the people I meet on the radio rather then just exchanging signal reports.
