Title: VE8NSD Field Day Style!
Post by: WD8BIL on April 27, 2015, 10:15:36 AM
Saturday 4/25 I was at the hunting camp with the IC 746 on battery power. The 40 meter dipole at 25ft had an swr of 1.7:1 at 21.430MHz. The internal tuner had no problem with that.

I was grilling some venison chops when the squelch opened and I heard VE8NSD call CQ. He was S9+10. I answered and we had a great QSO for about 30 minutes.

VE8 is the Northwest Territory!!! 1978 miles from the cabin.

Also worked on 15M was K5TED.

All with a 37 watt carrier from the 746 on battery power!!!

I'll be down there again this coming weekend. Give me a call. I'll be listening on 15M at 21.430MHz.

Awesome! I think I've only ever worked NWT once or twice on any mode. Never on AM.

This was my 2nd NWT contact in 4 months. Both on 15M. The first one was from home with the 40M dipole at 80ft and 200W carrier.

Fun stuff, Steve. Hope you are well!

It's even more fun doing it on 6 meters.

Good idea Pete. The IC 746 has 6 meters. A quick dipole at the cabin can be done easily.
Thanks for the challenge!

I enjoyed the QSO! I much prefer sitting and chatting with the people I meet on the radio rather then just exchanging signal reports. And if you get me talking hunting, guns or muscle cars I'll never stop talking until the QSB wipes me out.
