The round box did not have a seal, just the Astatic part number (MC 320). Nor was there any indication there had ever been a seal...no remnants of seal paper. The box is held closed by the friction of the cardboard. The solder lugs on the back of the element were as-new, with no indication of solder, no clipped wires. And yeah, it works GREAT! It's now in the D-104 that will be ring-and-spring suspended by a boom over the DX-100B. I found an old 50's-era industrial work-lamp-on-a-boom-arm that will serve nicely for the boom, and not look like a modern Heil-type scissors boom. Got some retro-looking cloth-covered mic cable to add to the totally faux authenticity. Will post a photo of the rig when it is all installed and finished.

The boat anchor station construction continues. Here is an Astatic D-104 head with the brand new (New Old Stock) Astatic crystal element installed. Modified to look like an old school carbon mic. It will be suspended by an "of the era" mic boom made from a 50's industrial lamp arm.

Pseudo-new-old-school D-104 ring mic installed but not wired up yet. Trying to decide if I want a foot switch or a PTT hand switch.

Looks really good, Frank - and a NIB element to boot! Not baaaaad. A mic on a boom is handy as it not only frees up your hands, it gets and keeps the mic up at a more comfortable speaking level.

Made one of these decades ago using one of those cheapie spring-loaded architect's lamp and a Knight kit knob to interface with the Astatic G stand that I cut with a hacksaw(inside diameter of the knob back was perfect). Nowhere near as elegant as yours, but it worked fine. Hopefully the Astatic Gods will forgive me for the (literal) hack job!

For PTT switch, hand or foot, do both!   Just wire in parallel and try to remember not to trip.  ;D
