Anyone see this on Fear Factor last Monday?  Was this a real substation?

Yep, they're right - the wanna-be's at home may try it and get themselves fried. No clue of the real danger. Not a good thing.

On a similar subject....  I've carefully watched the ACTION stunts they have the contestants do and they are so carefully controlled and worked out by professional stunt guys beforehand that it's pretty hard to get hurt with all the safety harnesses, etc.   But there is SOME risk of getting hurt in some of them.  But most are so candy coated that you couldn't hurt yourself without really trying.

What I like the best about that show is how some people just sike themselves out of the game  with their own fear, esp the stunts involving lying in a bed of cockroaches or eating worms, etc.  Then there's some guys who just shrug it off and laugh. It goes to show that most of life and overcoming fear is just a matter of attitude.

Then there's the poker card shows. Just love the people who get aggressive, take a chance and end up winning.  In this whirl big BA's pays off. As the British Special Forces motto goes: "Those who dare, win!"
Or I like: "It's better to live a day as a lion than a lifetime as a lamb".

Or as Guru Trogladite pictured above might say:  "It's better to live a lifetime naked than a day in an Elvis suit."

Those shows are fun for sure.   My reservation is eating that junk like sheep eyeballs and assorted guts, raw.  I'd be a little worried about getting hepatitis or taking on some parasites or nasty bacteria.  You might be living like a lion, but later the roaring would be coming through the bathroom door.

HA!   Yeah, I agree wid that.  There are some border line stunts involving potentially contaiminated or parasitic laden food as you say.  There were several contestants who dropped out due to being vegetarians.  Many of the girls can't cut that stuff.

I liked the one I saw last night of the only guy who would lie in the cockroach tub for four minutes. He was so cool that after he got out he just talked to the head stooge with biting roaches hanging off him like they weren't even there.

He later went on to risk $44,000 on one hand of blackjack at the casino table - and won.  Dudes like that deserve to win.  Great stuff.

If anyone knows anything at all about electicity, they could walk around inside a subsatation.  Just keep away from the HV conductors.  The telltale sign is that  they are mounted on giant hV insulators- duh! Workers walk around inside those things all the time while performing maintenance.  I suspect anyone familar enough with HV to build a kw transmitter could safely navigate inside one.

However, I have heard workers say that there is enough induction near the HV conductors that nearby ungrounded metal objects can give a nasty shock.  Probably wouldn't be lethal, but the unsuspecting could conceivably be startled enough to inadventantly touch something dangerous.

Those "reality" tv shows have to be the dumbest most idiotic things to ever hit the tv screen. Aren't people tired of the same dumb stunts and situations week after week after week ? Besides, those shows are totally rigged other wise they wouldn't be allowed to do 90% of the stuff you see. Only time it might get risky is when some moron decides to go ahead and try it at home.  Television is a wasteland.
