Title: PA/T-195... any value.
Post by: KD5KC on March 03, 2015, 11:08:31 PM
Good evening.

I am cleaning up some loose ends from a Silent Key equipment sale.  I have two chassis and a schematic for what appears to be the PA/T-195.  The primary amplifier tube is a 4X150D.

From what I can tell, they are the power amplifier chassis for the T-195 transmitter.  I have not found any T-195 transmitters, so perhaps they were bought for another purpose but never touched after purchase.

Are these chassis of any value, or should they make their way to the dump?

Thanks much.

Mike - KD5KC.

If what you have are as shown, I'd like them.

Don't trash or scrap them. They are not worth a lot unless you have the rest of the radio and need spares, but I would have an interest from an experimental position. On the other hand, they are well made and I think worth some time to play with.

Tube takes 26.5V heater, and is otherwise like any 4X150. GRC-19 TRANSMITTER 1.5-20 Mhz AM-CW-FSK in ten bands manual or auto tune. Power output 100 W (1.5-12), 90 W (12-16), 80 W (16-20 MHz). Uses one 4X150D tube in power amp and two in modulator.

The PA modules without the radio are not easy to work with due to all the autotune and servo stuff. If one has patience for rather tedious disassembly and reassembly, some of the parts can be harvested, although others are made-in-to the assy. It might be possible with the same patience to mechanically simplify and make nice little amplifiers with.

The whole TX which includes even the antenna matcher can be has for $150-300 or so, depending where and whom, and the 4X150D tubes having 26v heaters are not as popular as the 6V versions 4X150A.

If you are going to trash them I would like them.

schematic attached, it's a pretty nice piece really. Just a bit of a challenge.

Henry Rogers at the Western Historic Radio Musem in Nevada has a nice page about the T-195 and rebuilding.
