Title: Bucking Line Voltage ?
Post by: N8ETQ on February 18, 2015, 11:26:22 AM

Knee deep in a Ranger rebuild here and I never
thought about it before but given a choice where would
the "Preferred" location of the 5.0 volt winding go?
"Hot side" or "Nuet. side"? I know the insulation on
a 5.0 volt winding is pretty good, but....

      WWJD?

Thanks

/Dan

Either side, shouldn't matter.  You have to phase it correctly.

I use a 15 Amp Variac to supply a "Boat Anchor Buss" that's set for 117 Volts. All my pre-1970 gear operates from that reduced voltage.
