Title: IT'S 4AM, WHERE IS ALL MY SNOW??
Post by: KA2DZT on January 27, 2015, 04:22:33 AM

The way the wx reports were, this was to be the mother of all storms.  I think I have about 4 inches of snow here in central NJ.  They said there was to be 40-50 m/h winds, blizzard conditions.  I have nearly no wind at all.

So, who got all my snow??

I hear that LI and CT have your snow. I'll bet that if you ask politely, they'll let you drop by and pick it up.

Snow works the same way as Santa Claus. If you stay up and keep checking for it you get nothing.

That wind was the broadcaster huffing and puffing to hype the storm and boost ratings.

Exactly.  The National WX Service does not name winter storms, but I see that the WX Channel continues to name them - this one "Juno".  Just like broadcast journalism, weather reporting is deteriorating into entertainment.

I like snow and enjoy being outdoors in it.  But we only received about a half inch here near Ft. Belvoir. Not enough to get the sleds out.

It's 4AM. Why aren't you sleeping?

It's here in my driveway. Looks like we are close to
2 feet here in Stonington and it's stilll pounding down.  At least it's dry snow so no massive power outages like in 2013.  Also the winds are only gusting in the 40s. Good day for playing on the radio.

Fred, your massive transformer collection stores summer heat and keeps snow totals down in your neighborhood.

There's also a small amount of hum on your post.

At least there's no FMing.

I have some of it here in Manchester, NH.  About 12 - 14" so far and it's still snowing.  We aren't getting the winds they predicted - at least yet

Shouldn't this post be moved to the "Wanted" section? 8)

I got out my leaf blower and cleaned a few hundred feet of the powder off my driveway.

I had thought of doing that a few weeks ago when we got a light dusting of very fine powder.  I don't think its going to cut it today though - heading out to fire up the Airens in a few minutes, flakes are getting bigger, radar plots look like the back side of the snow is almost here in SE CT.

About 18" here 15 miles SE of Hartford.  At about 3AM this morning it was howling like a sandstorm.

I haven't had a snowblower in over 25 years. Still go out there and shovel. A two hour job today. Good exercise... ;)

Fun to watch Yaz walk thru the tunnels.

Stop by and you can have all that you want.

Just an old photo of digging out the closeline dipole.

Well, the count is 24" so far.  I went out earlier today and good 'ole faithful, 45 year old Ariens sno blower did her self proud.  Did most of the driveway, the fire lane, the oil man's path and the propane guy's path.  More tomorrow - mop up (using the term loosely)

Took some pics.  Note the chains - a very important part of making the job easier

Note the target with 45ACP  & 41 MAG holes

Called my sisters last night, one in Kingston, MA and the other in Wareham, MA. sister in Wareham is a nurse, works at a hospital in Plymouth, she stayed there Monday night rather than drive Tuesday morning. My other sister and her husband stayed home today as there was a travel ban.

Called them today, they got 24" of snow but did not lose power, all is well. One sister sent me a few pictures. I haven't spent a winter in New England since 1970, I don't miss that **** at ALL!!

Weather is capricious every where, we are about to set a weather record here in CA for the driest January, no rain since December, not good.

Is that a BILAL antenna to the left cleverly disguised as a bird feeder?

B,

Veryy, very observant... It's the new and improved  BILAL 1750m transmitting antenna.

•Easy, Quick, and Simple Installation
•Tunes & Performs Without Radials or Antenna Tuners
•Handles Up to 1000 Watts PEP
•Can be mounted in ANY Position Without Loss of Performance

Also, if you look closely, you can see the Gotham antenna just behind it in the pines.

Snowstorms in the northeast in the winter....how can this be?? Was it the "storm of the century" again? Can I come out from under the bed yet? The dust bunnies look hungry.  :o

Those weather forecasters...you just never know. I tuned past the so-called WX channel last night to hear one of the OSMs describing a whopping 14 inches of snow in Boston, and saying it was still possible that this storm could crack the Top 5 storms of all time. Go Team Snow, go!

At least one man has a deep appreciation of this unlikely confluence of events - winter, cold, and snow - taking place.

Looks like he just got done shoveling his driveway.
