Title: Am I being scammed? Post by: Detroit47 on January 17, 2015, 10:31:39 AM Does any one have a good email for Edward C Hoffman K5AH ? I have been contacted by a person using this email edwardk5ah@gmail.com. There has been a scam alert on this name. I asked for a photo of the part I wanted to buy and he sent me a photo off of somebody else s site. It looks like a scam to me.

Interestingly Google street view shows the address as an actual house, a lot of these scams use one of the anonymous post office drop boxes.

This fellow seems to be very busy. I Googled the call and came up with a scam alert. Sometimes it pays to be a cynical person.

A member of this site told me in a PM that they had had dealings with this person also. I am going to attach a copy of one of the emails form this guy so you may examine it. I can forward all of my correspondence with this fellow if you like. As far as the email address it worked this morning.

I couldn't find an emal, but wm7d.com shows: HOFFMAN II, EDWARD C 20062 ROCQUIN LANE PONCHATOULA, LA 70454 ... so I suggest you send him a letter. The only phone number at that address is for a different person, with a name usually used by a woman, but in the same age range, so it might be his wife. The line did not answer when I dialed it. Post by: W4EWH on January 18, 2015, 10:04:39 AM Maybe I better delete my email address from QRZd Fred, I advise you to do the opposite: if you have a page there, even if it's just a "placeholder" like mine, then it's much harder for anyone to hijack it. I'd bet that the scammer found a ham who isn't on the air, and stole his virtual ID. That means he could open a qrz page because it didn't yet exist, and (like most sites) qrz has few protections against that kind of fraud. Bill, W1AC |
