I now have two Skull Candy over the ear stereo headphone sets with bad wiring, one with a bad connection to one earpiece and one with a bad connection at the 1/8 inch molded-on  3 conductor connector plug.  I cut off the plug on the latter set, in hopes of being able to replace it,  However, the wiring in the cable is VERY fine tinsel wire, I can only identify  tinsel for two conductors, and no common lead or return leads for each signal path.  Anyone else have any luck in working with the wiring on this brand of headset?

Really disappointing that the wire on these headsets is so cheesy, considering the 50 plus bucks they cost me each.  I'm thinking about replacing all of the wiring with better stuff, provided I can get to the earpiece transducer terminals without having to destructively breaking into the earpiece housings.

I have repaired my various headphones and wired phone headsets many times.
The wire they use is very flexible, thin and soft.
I have not run into anything I could not fix, and I often put better wire on.

I need a better pair, I have a set of Sony noise cancelling ones that I only use as normal headphones, and the ear pads are wearing out.
What about the Heil stuff?
Maybe buy a good set instead of fixing/replacing the garbage that is almost as expensive...

I've been using a pair of Lafayette F-990 headphones since the mid-60's. They still work great and look good. Sold for $29.95. As far as I can remember, no tinsel wire was used. If you can only find two wires in your headphone cable, tinsel or otherwise at the plug end, they're not stereo.
