Snagged some nice (9-10 inches or so) Bluegills in recent weeks. The fall fishing has been good this year.

That's right behind your house isn't it?  Beautiful fall scene. Leaves totally gone over here and 13 degrees this AM, but 50 deg. coming later in day.  Glad I don't live in Buffalo.

Did you eat those fat babies?

Yep, in my back yard. I've hit a few other places too. If you like fishing, this area is great. Lots of good fresh water stuff around with many lakes and ponds within short distance, two rivers that offer fresh and brackish fishing, the bay is within an hour drive and so is the ocean.

I've been tossing them back, but the next time I snag some nice ones, I think it will be time for a fish fry!

I'd guess that your leaves/WX pattern is a month or more ahead of mine. It's amazing what 150-200 miles and some mountains will do. I think that we just had our first frost this week.

Sometimes the board runs like that. A lot of interesting, enjoyable threads. Other times it's pretty quiet. We're heading back into hibernation time.

Check out this one Steve snagged last year. He has it in his freezer until we can figure out how to wire it up as a Boogie Bass using radio slang.

Lately, the bluegills have been caught on nothing more than a worm (live night crawlers) on a hook and bobber or float. I even caught a 3 pound bass on a worm in early October, while fishing for the bluegills (photo below).

I've caught tons (I'd guess several hundred) crappie this summer on jig heads with various tails or bodies on them, often with something called Crappie Nibbles on the hook. These are man made soft pellets. The rest were caught with spinner rigs of one sort or another. The crappie have slowed down of late, but I did catch a pretty big one (about 14 inches) in mid-October (see attached photo).

Most of the bass I've caught in recent years were when I was using plastic worms like those from Gulp, Yamato, etc. I usually have these Carolina rigged since the ponds/lakes I fish have a ton of weeds, and this avoids snagging. I've also caught a few with artificial minnows, some with spinners, some not.

I'm just a casual, mostly unsophisticated fisherman. Almost all the gear I have was purchased at Walmart. I like to keep it simple and have fun.

Wow, your pond sure has a good stock of fish. I wonder if you catch any bullheads or eels on the bottom?

This fall was a good season for pike in the CT River. I sometimes go out in the kayak for them. Use two poles - a live minnow on one and a red/white daredevil lure on the other.  The largemouth bass have really taken over in the last decade or so. Real predators.

Yeah, the bluegills will go after almost anything.

When I go hiking around the reservoir, I sometimes throw a bug into the water and watch the bluegills go crazy. Then I throw in a bud and watch 'em spit it out one by one. Reminds me of when I throw Yaz a few pieces of chicken to catch in the air. Then comes the orange peel as he spits it out and curls up his lip.... HA!

Has anyone ran 2m AM through a bass ground plane?

Some AMers have too much bass on their audio.  ;)

Never fished out in the middle of the lake on the bottom. I hear there are catfish in the pond. I've also caught yellow perch and one chain pickerel. I wasn't expecting the latter, especially with all those teeth!

The bluegills get more picky or less aggressive as the water cools. I've been using much smaller hooks and worms. Gotta go small in the winter.

Sasha will be 17 in February, assuming she lasts that long.  :'(

I just recently lost my best friend after 15 years.

The breed is a Louisiana Catahoula Curr, the Louisiana State Dog.

I still miss Max, my Scotty who I put down back in the mid-90s. Never had the heart to get another.

Here's another shot of Sasha in her younger years. Few know this, but she was a professional sniper trained by a certain agency to take out rogue squirrels, rabbits, and commies. You need to hook some radial wires to the various fish in the pond.  You would then have a random radial field!  Work all kind of DX with that scheme, maybe even some rare ones.

I'm not much of a natural sportsman, more towards ATV trail riding to appreciate the woods, but certainly appreciate the outdoor game and other sport in this cooler season. The crappie radials and pets as well.

caught my first striped bass on a fly rod this year.  Wasn't a keeper but put up a good fight.  First in 2 years of trying. 

I did get up to the Pennobscot this June for some trout and landlocked Salmon fishing.

It was rainy and cold most of the day with temps in the upper 30s and low 40s. The rain let up around 4 PM, so I popped outside for some fishing before turkey time. The WX improved while I was out and even some blue skye were seen before I quit. I snagged five in about 30 minutes, including the big one shown bellow (9-10 inches). I was tempted to go for more but my hands were cold and the turkey was calling.  ;)

Most are. Some can be pacified and a few even turned(see early example of waterboarding below). The rest are hopeless. Sasha is trained to spot the difference.

Ah yes, the rare squirrelfish.

I'm gonna stop with the fish posts after this. But I HAD to post this one. I was fishing again this afternoon and catching the usual bluegills and crappie of late. On my last cast, I snagged a six pound large mouth bass. Ya just never know!

Six pounds... Mucho Grande!  That's the weight of a trophy shad in the CT River.

I'll bet the blue gills and perch are holding a celebration now that the HuzMan dropped a big mawl on the wicked witch.

I wonder how these fish got in that pond in the first place?  Do you think some people stocked it years ago or does it un-obstructively connect to a river?

It was a farm pond many years ago, so I'm guessing that it was stocked way back then.

Last Saturday was a perfect day for fishing. Got out there about 9AM and fished till 3PM complete with lunch.

The crappie picture was taken 15 minutes after the holes were drilled. I ended up with half a dozen making a nice dinner when I got home.

I went this past Sunday. It was 70 degrees. Didn't even get a bite. Ya never know.

Worked well enuf on the crappie!!!!

Some good fishing this past weekend - two 5-pound bass and a ton of gills and shell crackers. Even snagged a couple of crappie.

Nice!  I spent last week up the cape.  Tried to hook some striped bass on a couple of days while there but the seals kept going after my bait.  Gave up.  Bluefish were a hopping. Resorted to bike riding and lounging on the beach.

If I want fish I go to the Shrimp Box restaurant in Pt. Pleasant Beach. No mess, no fuss, no cleanup; order, eat, pay, and leave.
