Title: FT-102 Question
Post by: W2FDR on November 02, 2014, 08:54:15 AM
I recently acquired a nice FT-102 and have a question regarding how to reduce the output so to not overdrive the amp.   Is it okay to simply tune up as normal, then reduce the drive knob until a safe level of output is obtained?  I need about 60w to drive my amp to 1.5kw.  Above that the 'overdrive' indicator kicks in and turns off the amp.

Tnx,

Yes, you can do that.  Tune up for full output without your amp. Then tune the amp for full output (you'll need to adjust the drive on the 102 to keep from overdriving the amp). Then adjust the drive on the 102 for about 300-350 watts output from the amp. This will give you enough headroom on both the 102 and the amp.
