Title: Triode connecting 4-400's...?
Post by: WB1AEX on January 22, 2005, 11:25:16 AM
I am curious about the best way to go about this when subbing out a pair of 3-500's in an RF linear.  I have searched around and found that some say to simply tie the grid and screen together and be done with it.  Others tie the grid and screen together through a small resistance of 10 ohms or so, claiming it is easier to drive and is more linear.  Not sure about that one.  A few have suggested connecting the screen to the plate.  That sounds like a recipe for a flashover from screen to grid but I guess some have had success with it.  Anyone tried any of the above with success?

Thanks for sharing any experiences or for any suggestions,

Rob,
Just plug them in. The gain will be a tad lower. I know a guy who did this and IRan a 4-1000A that way for years. fc

Strap the grid & screen together. Works pissa. Cheaper than a pair of 500's when you have a box full of 400's.
