The AM Forum

This morning I was tuning the 40M fone band and heard W100AW, ARRL HQ, on SSB just below 7200 KC calling CQ, and gave him a call on AM, which is what I had up & running at the time.  There were other stations calling so we just exchanged signal reports during our QSO. The differences in modes didn't seem to faze him. Courteous operator.

Most of them are quite courteous Brad; probably wouldn't last too long otherwise.  ;D Nice of them to volunteer. What with all carriers and other stuff splashed around by the tuner-uppers he may not have even noticed your carrier; his filter on USB side took care of your other sideband. He may not have even realized you were on AM. And if you zero beat him, his lower (bass) cutoff on LSB probably even eliminated your carrier in his passband. Most of those Ops sound like 100 or 150 to 2.4 kHz guys. Bet your carrier quieted his AGC though,.. well, depending on what kind of receiver circuit he had.

Are you working on the ARRL awards? I think it was a neat idea to spread the W1AW/xyz's  around the country.

Hi Rick.  I mentioned to the W100AW operator as we closed that I was running AM so if he wasn't aware of it before then, he knew by the end of the QSO! 

I'm shooting to earn the basic Centennial Worked All States award.  I've worked a couple of the other Centennial stations, but not enough to get very many points.
