Title: 6M WIDE OPEN! 6M AM EVERYWHERE!!
Post by: W8ASI on July 06, 2014, 01:48:51 PM
Hearing atleast 30-40 stations spanning from 50.367 to 50.415 AM! I haven't seen a opening like this in years.

50.400 has bumblebee heterodyne of about S1-S2 here, so many stations my gosh! I have made contact with over 30 AM stations so far in the past two hours! I talked to guys on Clegg Zeus/Interceptor, Lafayette HA-460, Yaesu FT-920, National 183/heathkit Seneca, Icom 706mk2g and other radios, such a wide variety out there. So much fun!!

Also checked out 52.525 FM and there are a number of stations out there from New England, I am in Michigan in the metro Detroit area.  I could also hear those stations on my Icom T8A HT sitting on the counter in the shack!!

Band closed now, don't hear a peep. Today was one of the best stateside 6M band openings I have experienced in a long time.

Nothing magic about it. It's just good old fashion Sporadic E which is quite normal for this time of the year. Band is open, as I type, East coast to west coast and North and South. Besides U. S. stations, there are XE, FP, HI, JL, OX, VE prefixes being heard and worked.

I asked him which one ..and he said "that Icom one ....6 meter".....I told him the sun must be in an uproar don't worry about it , it will be OK soon...

Ahhh Yess . The heartbreak of six.

All I got on .400 was some ragchewing and a long time between call signs. I didn't ID anyone. No one came back to me.

Maybee it would be FB if the calling frequency was being used as a calling frequency. Make a contact, and move up or down about 7KC or so. At least when the band is wide open. At other times, being on .400 is good, as it lets the guys with the squelch park and wait for a signal.

On another note, I made a few contacts with the left coast. Ca stations were #ounding in.

She's open now. A couple of beacons, and SSB from PR.

No one on .400
