Brad,

I know in the past and maybe still, Dale - KW1I was heading it up.  I still have my AMI certificate with 833 as my membership number.  It took me awhile to finally join.

Why do we even need it?

I sent Dale, KW1I a note to see what the current status of AMI was.  Yes its still alive and appears to be most active out in the South Western part of the country.

As Dale indicated, it had more need years ago prior to ER and the internet.  ER did have a AMI column in the early years.   Today we have so many ways to disseminate information.  There is an AMI net out West and its quite popular.  Membership  currently is around 1700 but some of the members have become an SK.

Here are a couple of AMI links:

As I recall, AMI was started up when the SPAM organization fizzled out after Floyd Dunlap (WA5TWF) became a SK in the late 1980s.

I was a member of SPAM but it's been so long now that I don't remember if SPAM stood for Society for the Promotion of AM or Society for the Preservation of AM.  I'm inclined to think it was the former.

Joe, I like your AMI membership number.

Thanks Eric!  Yes, I thought that was fitting since I did have a pair of 833's as modulators along with a pair in the push pull final.

I'm not sure there's a reason to join AMI, unless there is a net or local chapter in my area, and I have not found reference to either on the web.  Thanks guys.
