Title: What Is A Radio?
Post by: flintstone mop on March 19, 2014, 10:28:46 AM
Maybe we are tired of the news and the missing Malaysian 777 airliner.
But I am amazed,,(should I be??) that the endless interviewers do not know what a radio is. Maybe WIRELESS is something new.....hmmmm
There are mentions of VHF and UHF radio and the news people seem clueless what these things are. They think all information is from satellites and ....what the hell is a transponder?
The pilots talk to air controllers using a magical device or a common cell phone.

Hi Fred,

I know the planes are equipped with HF voice capabilities as well.   I just talked to a commercial pilot the other day on 60M who was flying at 31K feet heading west.  Since all the other comm gear was turned off, I guess that was probably off as well.

CNN just keeps saying the same thing over and over and over again.  ABC and others appear to just give "here is what is new" and that suits me much better.

The off switch on my TV is a great feature!
