Title: 12M AM Contact Today
Post by: WD5JKO on March 02, 2014, 10:20:18 PM

Since there is no 12M section, I will use the 15M section..

At about 5 PM I had a good 12M AM contact with Tim, WA1HLR. Conditions were fair to midland. I was only running 15 watts carrier. The frequency was 24.985. Timmy was having some grid drive problems with his Viking 1.5, but after he sorted that out, I copied him good, like S7-S9 with an S2 noise level.

Tim was making a lot of noise about going to 12 meters.....I'm glad to see something came of it...I would like to try it myself....I have a transmitter that will go to 24985....Is Tim Xtal controlled?

We started on 29 Mhz, and conditions at that time were poor. So on his suggestion we went to 12M to 24.985. The signals were much better both ways. Tim was using the Hex beam, and I had the 80m OCF Inv-V. Tim was using the Johnson VFO in the 11m position where he padded it down to cover 12M, multiplying 4X. He held pretty steady until his last transmission where he dropped about 3 Khz...Good thing it didn't go UP since the band edge is on 24990. ???
